My name is Erin Byrnes and I’m running for re-election to continue serving as your State Representative in House District 15!
I grew up in Dearborn, and I am a proud graduate of the University of Michigan-Dearborn. My career in education began in New York City Public Schools where I served as a middle special education teacher while attending graduate school in the evening at the City University of New York. When I returned home to Michigan, I transitioned to the field of higher education and worked at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor for ten years. First, I managed America Reads, a literacy tutoring program for children in grades K-5. Then, I led campus-wide democratic engagement efforts, focusing on non-partisan student voter registration, engagement and turnout.
In 2017, I was elected to Dearborn City Council and was re-elected to the position of President Pro-Tem in 2021. I was proud to serve on City Council for five years, and focused on quality of life in neighborhoods and parks, economic development and public health.
In 2023, I began serving my first term as State Representative for House District 15. Throughout my first term, I have focused on bringing the hopes and concerns of our community to Lansing. Every piece of legislation I have introduced and am currently working on is written with our collective best interests in mind. I serve the people of Dearborn and Dearborn Heights-not special interests. I do not accept dark money, and I have not taken a penny from DTE, and I never will.
I am truly honored to serve our community, and I promise to bring an authentic, no-nonsense approach to the work I do in Lansing. When I first ran for office in 2017, my motto was ‘A neighbor you can trust, a leader you can count on.’ I have worked every day to live into that ideal, and I will never stop working for you, and for all of us.
In service,
-Erin
