My name is Erin Byrnes and I’m running to be your State Representative in House District 15!  This district brings portions of Dearborn and Dearborn Heights together, and I’m excited to bridge our communities as we work towards common goals.

I grew up on Neckel St. in Dearborn and spent time playing in local parks, ice skating and playing volleyball.  My first job was a paper route at the age of twelve and my parents instilled a strong work ethic, as my dad worked at a hardware store and then for the Department of Public Works, and my mom worked in a nearby hospital system.

After finishing high school, I earned my Bachelor’s degree from UM-Dearborn and then went on to graduate school in New York City where I served as a middle school special education teacher and took classes in the evening.  I returned home after several years of living in Brooklyn to be close to family and to be of service within my home community.

My work as an educator at the University of Michigan began in 2011, and I completed the Michigan Political Leadership Program via MSU in 2015.  During this time, I also began serving on the City Beautiful Commission and working on event planning in downtown business districts.  This work in the local community inspired me to run for City Council in 2017, as I sought an opportunity for broader positive impact.

I have had the honor of serving as a member of Dearborn City Council since 2018 and currently serve as Council President Pro Tem.  As your State Representative, I will bring my experience at the local level to Lansing to advocate effectively for you and your loved ones.

I look forward to the opportunity to serve you and to advance our community!
